Sharing Blessings: Aqiqah for the Health of the Your Baby
One of our projects is aqiqah(aqeeqah), which is the Islamic tradition of sacrificing an animal on behalf of the newborn child. We will explain how we use aqiqah for the needy and the poor, and how you can join us in this noble cause. Aqiqah is a highly emphasized tradition by the Prophet of Islam for newborn babies. How Do We Use Aqiqah for the Needy and the Poor?
As you may know, aqiqah is a type of voluntary charity that is recommended but not obligatory in Islam. It is usually done on the seventh day after the child’s birth, but it can also be done later, as long as it is before the child reaches puberty. The animal that is sacrificed for aqiqah should be healthy, mature, and free from any defects. The preferred animals are sheep or goats, and two animals should be sacrificed for a boy and one for a girl.
We aim to use aqiqah as a means of feeding the poor and needy and sharing with them the goodness and generosity of Allah.
We have two ways of using aqiqah for the needy and the poor:
- We either cook food for them and distribute hot meals to them in different locations, such as mosques, schools, orphanages, hospitals, refugee camps, or slums.
- Or we divide the meat and distribute it to the households under our coverage, who are registered with us as eligible beneficiaries.
In both cases, we ensure that the meat is Halal (lawful), fresh, and hygienic. We also ensure that the distribution is fair, transparent, and respectful. We also try to reach out to as many people as possible, especially those who are most in need and most deserving.
