Charity and Faith in Ramadan

Ramadan 2025 has brought with it many blessings, but today, we want to share a story of one of the most dedicated individuals in our Islamic charity. Halima, a humble yet extraordinary cook, has been preparing meals for the needy for eight years without seeking recognition. Her story is one of unwavering faith, selflessness, and an unshakable belief in Allah’s rewards.

A Life Devoted to Feeding the Fasting

Halima was born in Syria and has spent her life serving others. Despite the turmoil that has engulfed her homeland, she remained steadfast in her mission–to ensure that no fasting Muslim in her community goes to bed hungry. Now, at 57 years old, she still approaches every Ramadan with the same passion as when she first joined us.

For years, Halima refused to have her photo taken or her name published, believing that her reward lies solely with Allah. When we asked her why she was so strict in reporting her activities, she recited this verse from the Quran to us in her native language, Arabic, and we all enjoyed the power of her faith and learned from her:

Allah Sees Even the Hidden Acts of Charity

“If you disclose your charity, it is good, but if you conceal it and give it to the poor, it is better for you, and He will remove from you some of your misdeeds. And Allah is Aware of what you do.”– Surah Al-Baqarah (2:271)

But this year, she agreed to allow us to share her story–so that others may be inspired by her devotion. One single photo was taken of her(Photo at the beginning of the text), capturing her in action, preparing iftar for Palestinian Muslims with the same warmth and sincerity that she has always shown.

Cooking for the Needy: A Mission of Faith

In the westernmost part of Syria, near the border with Palestine, Halima works in a kitchen that she equipped herself. Every day, she and her team prepare nearly 400 Suhoor and Iftar meals for fasting Muslims in Syria and Palestine. The conditions are challenging–limited resources, long hours, and the heavy weight of responsibility–but Halima’s faith never wavers.

She often tells us that cooking for the needy is her form of worship. The aroma of freshly cooked meals, the steam rising from the pots, and the sound of utensils clinking against metal bowls are, for her, reminders of Allah’s mercy. Every grain of rice, every loaf of bread, and every bowl of soup she prepares is infused with sincerity and love.
