In September 2025, Afghanistan is facing one of its harshest crises in recent years after a devastating 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck the eastern provinces of Kunar, Nangarhar, and Laghman, killing more than 1,400 people and injuring thousands. Entire villages have collapsed, roads and bridges are blocked by landslides, and survivors are left without food, clean water, or shelter.

This tragedy comes while the country is already gripped by severe drought, food shortages, and economic hardship, pushing millions into extreme poverty. Families are sleeping in the open air, children are at risk of malnutrition, and medical centers are overwhelmed with the injured. The Afghan people now face a dangerous combination of natural disaster and ongoing humanitarian emergency, making immediate aid and relief efforts absolutely critical.
