This small-scale project aims at mitigating desertification by planting 50 to 60 trees of various resistant species like Haloxylon spp., Prosopis spp., Eucalyptus spp., and Acacia spp.

These species are chosen due to their ability to withstand arid conditions and their potential to contribute to the reestablishment of the region’s natural biodiversity.

This is one of the best projects of Sadaqah Jariyah, because tree planting has been emphasized in all types of Sadaqah Jariyah, and this work reduces environmental damage and improves the quality of soil and weather.

The selection of tree species is crucial. Haloxylon, Prosopis, Eucalyptus, and Acacia species are chosen for their drought-resistance and adaptability to desert conditions.

The trees will be planted at the beginning of the rainy season to ensure they have enough water to establish. The spacing of trees will depend on the species, but generally, they will be planted at least 3-5 meters apart.

Maintenance and Watering

Year 1-2: Regular watering is essential, especially in the first two years. The young trees will need an estimated 15-20 liters of water per week. If rainfall is insufficient, supplementary watering will be required.

Monitoring tree health is vital during this initial period. Any signs of disease or pests should be addressed promptly. Mulching can be used to retain soil moisture and reduce weed growth.

Year 3-5: By the third year, trees should have a strong root system, and their need for watering will decrease significantly. However, during prolonged periods without rain, supplementary watering should still be provided.

  • Prepare the planting: $100 to $150
  • Dig holes or trenches: $250 to $300
  • Mulch: $100 to $120
  • Maintain and monitor the trees after planting: $130 to $150
  • Transportation: $150 to $200
  • Support structures: $50 to $80
  • Irrigation with water truck: $550 to $650
  • Tree saplings: $450 to $500 for 50 to 60 trees

Tip: Considering the average price of an 1-year-old Tree saplings, it can vary depending on several factors such as the type of spp., the size of the tree and the seller.

However, based on our research and the cooperation of Local Trustees, the average price of an 1-year-old Tree saplings can be between $6 and $10. Again, this is just an estimate and the actual price may vary depending on specific circumstances.

Assuming the cost of each item falls in the middle of the range, the total cost of setting up a This small-scale project with 50 to 60 trees would be approximately $1,950.

This anti-desertification project is a step towards restoring the balance of our ecosystem. By planting these resistant species, we aim to reduce desertification and promote biodiversity.

The maintenance and watering of trees for the first few years are crucial, but with proper care, these trees will grow to provide shade, prevent soil erosion, and offer habitats for wildlife, thus helping to restore our environment.
