This season marks the beginning of exciting new chapters for Our Islamic Charity, as we embark on another impactful tree-planting project – a project deeply rooted in the principles of Sadaqah Jariyah, a form of ongoing charity that continues to benefit even after the giver’s passing.
Planting Seeds of Generosity: The Power of Sadaqah Jariyah Through Trees
The Quran highlights the significance of planting trees. Surah An-Naml (27:60) states:
“[More precisely], is He [not best] who created the heavens and the earth and sent down for you rain from the sky, causing to grow thereby gardens of joyful beauty which you could not [otherwise] have grown the trees thereof? Is there a deity with Allah ? [No], but they are a people who ascribe equals [to Him].”
See how beautiful it is, what does Allah refer to after creating the heavens and the earth? Grown the trees. Planting a tree becomes an act of faith, a Sadaqah Jariyah that not only beautifies the Earth but also promises a reward in the hereafter.
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) emphasized the importance of Sadaqah Jariyah in numerous hadiths. In one such narration, he said:
“The best of charities is a flowing spring that benefits the wayfarer, the Muslim, and the animal.” (Musnad Ahmad 5/192).
Trees, with their life-giving shade, nourishing fruits, and ability to purify the air, embody the essence of a flowing spring, offering continuous benefits for generations to come.

Our Islamic Charity’s tree-planting project goes beyond simply nurturing the environment. We strategically select trees that thrive in specific climate zones, such as olive trees in the Mediterranean region, fig trees in Central Asia, and date palms in the Middle East. These trees are then planted on designated agricultural lands, ensuring their growth and long-term sustainability.
But the true impact lies in the hands of those who receive these precious gifts. We carefully identify low-income families, those struggling to make ends meet, and entrust them with the care of these trees. With proper training and ongoing support, these families gain the knowledge and resources needed to cultivate the trees, transforming them into a source of income and sustenance.
The fruits produced by these trees can be sold in local markets, providing families with a steady financial stream. Additionally, the olive trees, known for their longevity, offer a continuous harvest for years to come, creating a lasting legacy of financial security. This empowers families to break free from the cycle of poverty, allowing them to invest in their children’s education, improve their living conditions, and build a brighter future.
