Sharia Law on Crypto Betting and Gambling

In today’s fast-evolving financial world, the question arises for many: is gambling or betting with cryptocurrency haram (forbidden)? To help you understand the Islamic perspective, let’s dive into what Islam says about gambling and betting, no matter the currency, and how we can purify any haram wealth we may have gained.

Is Gambling with Cryptocurrency Different from Traditional Gambling in Islam?

In Islam, any form of gambling, whether it’s with cash, cryptocurrency, or other assets, is considered haram. Gambling and betting, known as “Maisir” in Arabic, have long been deemed Haram (forbidden) in Islam. This prohibition is rooted in Shariah, as gambling relies on chance, not on fair trade or productive work. Engaging in these activities, regardless of the currency, leads to uncertainty (gharar), promotes dependency on luck rather than skill, and carries a risk of addiction—all elements that go against Islamic principles. This holds for all Muslims, regardless of the type of asset involved, including cryptocurrency.

What Should You Do If You’ve Earned Money Through Gambling or Betting?

If you find yourself with money earned through gambling or betting and want to make it halal, there are steps you can take to cleanse this wealth and seek Allah’s forgiveness. By making sincere efforts to remove haram income from our lives, we aim to align our intentions with the teachings of Islam. Here’s how:

1. Repent to Allah (SWT) with a Sincere Heart

The first step toward purification is sincere Tawbah(repentance). Repent to Allah (SWT) for having engaged in haram activities, and resolve never to return to these actions again. When we turn to Allah with genuine regret, He is always ready to forgive, as long as we intend to stay away from haram means of earning in the future.

2. Dispose of Haram Money in Charity

The money earned through gambling or betting should not be used for personal gain, as it does not carry barakah (blessing). Instead, give this money to charitable causes or the poor to cleanse your wealth. Remember, this donation is not considered zakat since zakat requires pure income. Donating to causes that benefit society, such as feeding the needy, building community resources, or supporting Islamic institutions, is a way to rid yourself of haram funds and replace them with halal earnings.

Can’t Separate the Haram Money from Your Wealth? Try These Solutions

If gambling earnings are mixed with your entire wealth and it’s hard to separate them, there are three ways to approach this situation:

Option 1: Estimate and Donate the Same Amount as Sadaqah

If you have a rough idea of how much money was gained from gambling or betting, then calculate this amount and give it in sadaqah. This charity should be directed toward people in need or charitable projects, without expecting any personal gain or reward. Here you can pay Sadaqah in various cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum and more…

Option 2: Give Khums if Haram Earnings Are Minor

If you’re uncertain about the exact amount but know that it’s a small part of your wealth, you can purify it by giving khums. This involves giving one-fifth of your wealth to charity, which is a portion that, in Islamic tradition, serves to purify earnings. Here you can pay Khums in various cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum and more…

Option 3: Donate a Larger Amount if Haram Earnings Are Substantial

If a large part of your wealth is believed to contain haram earnings from gambling or betting, consider giving more than khums in charity. The amount depends on what brings you peace and what you feel is sufficient to purify your wealth. Some Muslims, in pursuit of full peace of mind, donate a major portion or even all of their wealth if they feel it’s heavily mixed with haram income. Allah knows our intentions best, and in striving for a pure heart, we seek His acceptance of our actions.

Seeking Allah’s Satisfaction and Inner Peace

In our journey as Muslims, we aim to preserve our religion and keep our earnings and hearts pure. By repenting sincerely, donating haram funds to charitable causes, and taking actions that align with Islamic principles, we show our dedication to living in a way that pleases Allah.

Remember, Allah sees every action and knows our intentions. He understands when we strive to cleanse our lives and make our wealth pure, and He rewards the effort to keep haram out of our lives. May Allah grant us success in our intentions, accept our efforts, and guide us on the path of purity, honesty, and peace.

Baalbek, Lebanon: Crisis and Displacement Amid Conflict in 2024

As our team at Our Islamic Charity responds to ongoing crises, our hearts and efforts are drawn to Baalbek, Lebanon—a city under severe strain due to recent conflict. Families have been torn from their homes, and the war’s toll is visible across this ancient, once-vibrant city. Many of the displaced are vulnerable women and children, struggling to find safety and basic resources as they’re forced to the Lebanese-Syrian border in search of refuge.

With the approaching winter, our work is only becoming more urgent. Together, let’s delve into the current crisis facing Baalbek and how we, as a united ummah, can provide meaningful, impactful support to those affected.

The Crisis in Baalbek: Conflict and Displacement

The city of Baalbek, a historic landmark and cultural center, has recently been thrust into turmoil. Bombings and ongoing skirmishes have led to significant destruction of infrastructure, leaving many homes and essential buildings in ruins. As a result, families are fleeing northward toward Lebanon’s border with Syria, where they face grueling conditions and inadequate shelter.

For many, the journey is filled with hardship. Women and children, the most vulnerable, are bearing the heaviest burdens. The cold autumn nights are fast turning into harsh winter conditions, and those who have managed to escape face chilling temperatures with little to no access to heating equipment, warm clothing, or sufficient shelter. Tents are few, and the limited heating sources like oil and diesel are nearly impossible to acquire due to the danger and complexity of transport.

The Urgent Needs: Food, Water, and Shelter

Securing basic resources has proven difficult under these circumstances. Our brothers and sisters lack the simplest yet most essential items: clean drinking water, dry food, and other necessities to make their temporary shelter survivable. Providing even the basics for cooking—such as potatoes, onions, and tomatoes—is hindered by long and often restrictive inspections along transport routes. Our charity is working to deliver durable food items like beans and dry grains that can withstand the journey, insha’Allah, but we must be prepared for long wait times and limited quantities.

Without sufficient clean water, health risks rise, especially among children and the elderly. The harsh weather, combined with a lack of sanitation, increases the risk of illness. Our aim is to ensure that every family has at least the bare essentials to cook, stay warm, and remain safe from preventable diseases.

How You Can Help: Crypto Donations for Baalbek

We at Our Islamic Charity believe that every bit of help makes a profound difference, and your support can directly impact these lives. For those who wish to contribute, we are accepting crypto donations, a secure and efficient way to deliver aid amidst these complex circumstances. Crypto donations allow us to quickly convert funds into vital supplies and distribute them where they’re needed most. By donating, you become part of a resilient network of support for our brothers and sisters in Baalbek in Lebanon.

Every donation, whether large or small, fuels our mission to bring relief to those enduring unimaginable hardship. Your contributions help us stand beside the people of Baalbek, provide warmth and nourishment, and, ultimately, affirm our collective humanity and commitment to charity as guided by our deen.

Standing Together as an Ummah

The plight of Baalbek’s people is a reminder of our duty to support each other through trials. The Quran and Hadith encourage us to give charity, especially to those suffering from war and displacement.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught that we are like one body; if one part suffers, all parts feel the pain.

Together, as an ummah, we can help our brothers and sisters overcome this difficult period. Let us remain steadfast in our commitment to provide relief and comfort to those in need, demonstrating our shared faith and compassion.

In these times of hardship, may Allah bless our efforts and grant ease to the people of Baalbek. We pray for their protection and strength and remain committed to standing by them. Join us in this mission, and let’s work together to bring light and hope to those in darkness.

How to Remove Sins and Seek Forgiveness in Islam: A Step-by-Step Guide to Discharging Mazalim and Achieving True Repentance

In our journey through life, mistakes and sins are inevitable. We may slip up in our duties to Allah, harm ourselves by indulging in forbidden actions, or even wrong others. The beauty of Islam is that Allah’s door is always open for sincere repentance. But how do we truly expiate our past sins? How do we seek forgiveness for sins that we can’t quite categorize, or those that involve the rights of others? At Our Islamic Charity, we believe that understanding how to purify ourselves and return to Allah is essential for every believer. Let’s explore how you can take practical steps to cleanse your heart, remove sins, and become closer to Allah.

Category 1: Sins with Specific Atonements (Kaffarah)

In Islam, there are certain sins for which Allah and His Messenger have provided detailed guidance on how to atone. One such example is breaking the fast during Ramadan without a valid excuse. For this sin, Islam has outlined the concept of Kaffarah. Kaffarah acts as a prescribed expiation or compensation for the wrongdoing.

For example:

If someone intentionally breaks their fast during Ramadan, they are required to either fast for 60 consecutive days or, if unable to do so, to feed 60 poor people.

Kaffarah is a way for us to make amends, rectify our relationship with Allah, and continue striving for righteousness. This concept teaches us the importance of taking responsibility for our actions and following through with tangible steps that bring us closer to Allah’s mercy. If we fail to follow these prescribed actions, it means we haven’t fully rectified our mistake, and thus, may not fully benefit from Allah’s forgiveness.

Here you can read about the types of Kaffarah and, if necessary, pay your Kaffarah based on various cryptocurrencies(BTC, ETH, SOL, BNB …).

Category 2: Sins Against Ourselves (For example Drinking Alcohol or Wine)

Now, there’s a second category of sins where, although the act is Haram(forbidden), no specific Kaffarah is mentioned in Islamic texts. A prime example of this is drinking alcohol or wine. While alcohol consumption is a major sin in Islam, the path to atonement doesn’t involve a fixed Kaffarah but focuses on sincere repentance (Tawbah).

When we indulge in sins like these, we harm ourselves more than anyone else. Allah, in His infinite wisdom, has forbidden alcohol for its detrimental effects on our physical, spiritual, and mental well-being. The road to forgiveness for sins like these involves:

  • Immediate cessation: Stop the sin immediately and resolve never to return to it.
  • Sincere repentance: Tawbah requires that we:
    • Regret the action deeply.
    • Ask Allah for forgiveness with a clean and pure heart.
    • Resolve never to return to the sin.
  • Charity and Good Deeds: Giving in charity, helping the poor, and doing good deeds can wipe away sins. Charity in secret, feeding the poor, and supporting orphans are especially powerful.
  • Istighfar: Constantly asking Allah for forgiveness through saying “Astaghfirullah” (I seek forgiveness from Allah).

The beauty of Tawbah lies in the fact that no matter how many times we sin, if we repent sincerely, Allah promises to forgive us. He is Al-Ghaffar, the One who forgives repeatedly. This means that even if we’ve committed the sin of drinking alcohol multiple times, we should never despair of Allah’s mercy. The door to forgiveness is always open, and repentance is a powerful tool that wipes away our past transgressions.

Category 3: Addressing Wrongs Done to Others (Discharging Mazalim)

The third category of sins is perhaps the most challenging but also the most rewarding. These are the sins that involve wronging others (Mazalim).

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has emphasized that when we violate the rights of others, whether it’s by lying, stealing, backbiting, or any other form of injustice, we must first seek to rectify the wrong with the person we have harmed before seeking forgiveness from Allah.

At Our Islamic Charity, we often encounter situations where people are unsure how to atone for the wrongs they’ve committed against others. This process, known as discharging Mazalim, involves a few key steps:

  • Acknowledge the wrong: Admitting our mistakes is the first step in rectifying them.
  • Seek forgiveness from the wronged party: It may be difficult, but asking for forgiveness from the person we’ve harmed is crucial. If they forgive us, we can rest assured that the sin has been lifted. If it’s impossible to make up for the wrongs directly, you can give charity on their behalf and pray for their well-being.
  • Compensate for any damage: If the wrong involves something tangible like money or property, we should return what we owe or offer compensation.
  • Sadaqah and Du’a: If it’s impossible to seek forgiveness directly, or the person is no longer available, we can give sadaqah on their behalf and make sincere Du’a for their well-being.

Sadaqah (charity) is a powerful means of cleansing sins in Islam. When we give Sadaqah, especially on behalf of those we have wronged, we hope that Allah will accept it as compensation and remove the burden of our sins. If you’re unsure about the exact compensation, donating generously to those in need, such as through Our Islamic Charity, is an excellent way to seek atonement.

Discharging Mazalim: How Much Should You Pay?

There’s no fixed amount of charity that one should give when discharging Mazalim. What matters most is the intention behind the act and the sincerity of your repentance. You should give according to your ability and make sure your heart is in the right place. Whether you give large amounts of crypto zakat or distribute food to the needy, what matters most is that you are actively working to purify your soul and atone for past mistakes.

At Our Islamic Charity, we encourage those seeking to rectify their past wrongs to contribute in meaningful ways that align with Islamic values. Whether it’s through providing for the Fuqara (needy) or sponsoring education for children, your charitable acts can become a means of removing your past sins.

The Power of Sincere Repentance

Every Muslim, at some point, will face the reality of sin. But the beauty of Islam is that no matter how far we stray, Allah’s mercy is always within reach. Through Kaffarah, Tawbah, and discharging Mazalim, we can purify our hearts and repair our relationship with both Allah and those around us. By giving in charity, feeding the poor, and seeking forgiveness from those we’ve wronged, we open the door to a fresh start—a new chapter where we live in accordance with Islamic teachings and with the hope of Allah’s infinite mercy.

Remember, no sin is too great to be forgiven, and no heart is too stained to be cleansed. At Our Islamic Charity, we are here to help guide you on your journey towards seeking Allah’s forgiveness. May Allah accept our repentance and allow us to walk the path of righteousness with sincerity and humility.

Let’s continue our mission to remove sins, distribute crypto donations, and give Sadaqah in ways that align with the noble principles of Islam.

Anonymous Charity: Charitable Giving in Islam

In our journey as a community dedicated to helping those in need, we often reflect on the profound impact of anonymous charity. At “Our Islamic Charity,” we understand that the essence of giving lies not just in the act itself, but in the intention behind it. This article delves into why anonymous charity is deeply rooted in our faith and how it can transform lives—both for the giver and the recipient.

The Heart of Giving: Intention Matters

When you give without seeking recognition, you align yourself with the true spirit of charity. The Quran emphasizes the importance of intention in acts of kindness. Allah knows what is in our hearts, and when we donate anonymously, our focus shifts from seeking praise to genuinely helping others. The beauty of anonymous giving lies in its purity; it allows us to serve for Allah’s pleasure alone.

Imagine a child in a remote village calling our volunteers “uncle” or “aunt.” In those moments, we realize the profound connections we forge through our acts of kindness. It is a profound honor for me, as a volunteer from Europe, to be regarded as family by a child in Asia or Africa. Hearing that child call me a member of their family fills my heart with joy and purpose. Each donation, whether in the form of BTC or traditional currency, brings us closer to those we may never meet, yet whose lives we profoundly touch.

The Role of Anonymity in Charity

Anonymity plays a crucial role in fostering a genuine desire to help. Many of our crypto-donors choose to remain unnamed, seeking only the satisfaction of knowing they have made a difference. This approach not only prevents any feelings of pride or superiority but also protects the sanctity of our intentions.

As the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stated, the best charity is that which is given in secret. This principle resonates with our community and guides our charitable activities.

In our experience at “Our Islamic Charity,” we have witnessed how anonymity can protect both the giver and the receiver. For many, the fear of judgment or scrutiny can inhibit their willingness to contribute. By embracing anonymous donations, we create an environment where everyone feels empowered to help without fear of public perception. This anonymity ensures that the focus remains on the act of giving, fostering a sense of unity and purpose within the Muslim community.

The Connection Between Faith and Anonymity

Our faith encourages us to think of others before ourselves. When we donate anonymously, we embody this principle. We become part of a larger family—the global Muslim community—bound by the shared goal of uplifting one another. Each contribution, whether it aids a child in need in Palestine or provides support to families in Afghanistan, is a testament to our commitment to each other as brothers and sisters in faith.

Moreover, blockchain technology, including Bitcoin, offers a unique opportunity for anonymous donations. The very foundation of these systems is built on privacy and security. For Muslims, this creates a comfortable space to engage in charitable work, knowing their contributions are both impactful and discreet.

The Power of Collective Impact

We believe that when we unite our efforts, we can achieve remarkable things. Each anonymous donation is a thread in the rich tapestry of our charitable work. Together, we can create a wave of change, reaching those who need our support most. The act of giving anonymously reinforces the message that we are all partners in this journey.

At “Our Islamic Charity,” we strive to be a beacon of hope. We operate with a sense of urgency, rushing to aid Muslims in need, regardless of geographical barriers. By participating in this cause, you join a movement that transcends borders and uplifts lives.

If you’ve felt the call to help but were hesitant due to concerns about recognition, we invite you to embrace the power of anonymous charity. Together, we can make a difference while safeguarding our intentions and serving only for the pleasure of Allah.

Join Us in This Noble Cause

As we reflect on the significance of anonymous charity, let us remember that each of us has a role to play in our community. By giving selflessly, we embody the teachings of our faith and extend a helping hand to those who need it most. The next time you consider making a donation, think of the impact you can have—not just on the lives of others, but on your own heart as well.

Join us at “Our Islamic Charity” as we continue to strive for a world where every act of kindness is a testament to our faith. Together, let’s create a legacy of generosity and compassion that echoes through generations.

With your support, we can build a brighter future for our brothers and sisters in need, fostering a community united by love, faith, and anonymous giving.

Nourishing Generations: Planting Trees, Empowering Communities through Sadaqah Jariyah

As autumn’s crisp air arrives, ushering in winter’s slumber, so too does the perfect time for planting trees. This season marks the beginning of exciting new chapters for Our Islamic Charity, as we embark on another impactful tree-planting project – a project deeply rooted in the principles of Sadaqah Jariyah, a form of ongoing charity that continues to benefit even after the giver’s passing.

Planting Seeds of Generosity: The Power of Sadaqah Jariyah Through Trees

The Quran highlights the significance of planting trees. Surah An-Naml (27:60) states:

“[More precisely], is He [not best] who created the heavens and the earth and sent down for you rain from the sky, causing to grow thereby gardens of joyful beauty which you could not [otherwise] have grown the trees thereof? Is there a deity with Allah ? [No], but they are a people who ascribe equals [to Him].”

See how beautiful it is, what does Allah refer to after creating the heavens and the earth? Grown the trees. Planting a tree becomes an act of faith, a Sadaqah Jariyah that not only beautifies the Earth but also promises a reward in the hereafter.

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) emphasized the importance of Sadaqah Jariyah in numerous hadiths. In one such narration, he said:

“The best of charities is a flowing spring that benefits the wayfarer, the Muslim, and the animal.” (Musnad Ahmad 5/192).

Trees, with their life-giving shade, nourishing fruits, and ability to purify the air, embody the essence of a flowing spring, offering continuous benefits for generations to come.

Beyond the Leaves: Empowering Families, Breaking the Cycle of Poverty

Our Islamic Charity’s tree-planting project goes beyond simply nurturing the environment. We strategically select trees that thrive in specific climate zones, such as olive trees in the Mediterranean region, fig trees in Central Asia, and date palms in the Middle East. These trees are then planted on designated agricultural lands, ensuring their growth and long-term sustainability.

But the true impact lies in the hands of those who receive these precious gifts. We carefully identify low-income families, those struggling to make ends meet, and entrust them with the care of these trees. With proper training and ongoing support, these families gain the knowledge and resources needed to cultivate the trees, transforming them into a source of income and sustenance.

The fruits produced by these trees can be sold in local markets, providing families with a steady financial stream. Additionally, the olive trees, known for their longevity, offer a continuous harvest for years to come, creating a lasting legacy of financial security. This empowers families to break free from the cycle of poverty, allowing them to invest in their children’s education, improve their living conditions, and build a brighter future.

Fall 2024 and Winter 2025: Expanding Our Reach, Cultivating Hope

This upcoming season, Our Islamic Charity is thrilled to expand our tree-planting project, reaching even more communities in need. We plan to focus our efforts on regions historically plagued by poverty and environmental degradation.

  • Central Asia: Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Pakistan
  • Middle East: Syria, Palestine, and Lebanon
  • Africa: Niger, Nigeria, Eritrea, and Sudan

In these areas, we believe that planting trees can be a catalyst for positive change. By empowering families and nurturing the land, we aim to cultivate not just flourishing orchards, but also a sense of hope and self-sufficiency within these communities.

Join Us in Planting a Legacy of Generosity

We invite you to become a part of this transformative journey. Your generous contributions, big or small, will allow us to procure more trees, secure agricultural land, and provide ongoing support to the families entrusted with their care. Together, we can create a lasting impact, one seed at a time.

Donate today and become a part of this Sadaqah Jariyah initiative.
Let’s plant the seeds of generosity, empower muslim communities, and nourish generations to come.
